Question:
Asalaamu alaykum
Does being a revert or a born Muslim affect a shar’i rulling?
Because my weak understanding is that halaal is halaal and haraam is haraam for both revert and born Muslim
Answer:
As salām ʿalaikum wa raḥmatullāhī wa barakātuhu
In the Name of Allāh, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
Brother in Islām,
At the outset it would be wise to understand that a recently reverted Muslim may face many challenges in terms of lack of support, the task of learning about Islām, and integrating into a new society. Labelling their actions as Ḥarām may be counter-productive. Education and encouragement are the two key words for a recently reverted Muslim.
Brother, being a revert does not affect the sharʿī rulings of Ḥalāl and Ḥarām. The rulings that apply to a born Muslim also apply to a revert Muslim.
And Allāh Taʿālā knows best.
